A quick welcome from me!
Welcome From Your Instructor
00:00 Hello and welcome to this course. I’m Stephen. I’m looking forward to meeting all of you. We’ve got eight weeks ahead of us packed with content, so hopefully you are ready to go.
00:11 I’ll keep this introductory video really brief because we’ll be meeting in our live kickoff meeting later today, assuming you’re watching this video on day one.
00:19 If you’re watching this video a few days early, we’ll be meeting live on day one. So we’ll, we’ll say a proper hello in that live kickoff meeting. I’ll make sure everyone is comfortable and understands what’s happening.
00:32 We’ll be communicating a lot over these eight weeks.
00:36 Yes, I’ll have videos like these. This is not really communic-, this is me communicating to you, but not you to me. But these videos will be brief every day.
00:43 I’ll have a short video introducing the content of the day, linking it with what’s happened before and what’s coming after. Sometimes adding a bit more, but we also have lots of live or asynchronous interaction.
00:57 The live interaction is the live lessons we’ll have. So every Thursday there is a core lesson, which is a key part of the week’s curriculum. We’ll dive deeper into the topics of the week, work on some examples.
01:09 Of course, you can ask questions there as well. Every live session is interactive. There’s nothing formal here. It’s all informal. But we also have two more live lessons or other live sessions every week, Tuesdays and Fridays.
01:23 And these are Q&As. So as you are learning throughout the week, you’ll have questions, I’m sure you will, and the live Q&As are where you can just come on a Zoom session, ask your questions, join in the discussions.
01:38 Even if you don’t have any questions–I’m sure you will–but even if you don’t have any particular questions on a Tuesday, say, join anyway, if you can, that’s great, and you can then participate in the discussions.
01:50 And sometimes someone else might ask a question and you might think, actually that’s a question I also have. The discussions we will have in the live sessions throughout the week and on the forum, which I’ll talk about later, I think they’re so important.
02:06 I think it’s these discussions where you are asking your questions, you’re bouncing ideas off someone else. And of course there’s the other students and, and me as the instructor, so do make the most of the forum of every day we’ll be there.
02:20 And the, the, the various live sessions that happen throughout week, you are already on this page. You’ve come through it. It should be fairly straightforward.
02:33 Every day has its own content. And as we go through these eight weeks, you’ll be sort of scrolling down and going through the content for those particular days.
02:42 You’ll figure out how the platform works. If you’re not familiar with the course pages on Real Python, you sort of figure it out. For example, if you are working on this lesson, of course they have, this is a video lesson, so I’ll stop it once you’re, once you’re in a lesson, this is a video, particular one.
03:00 It’s a video lesson. You’ll watch the video with videos. By the way, you have the transcript there as well. So in case you want to look at the transcript, we’ll, we’ll not use this discussion area because we’re going to use the forum instead and we’ll have all the discussions there.
03:14 So if you have questions, don’t ask them here. It’s better if we go to the forum.
03:19 And on the right hand side, you have the whole process. You can always go back to the overview, which is the page you’ve just come from. And of course you have to go forward.
03:30 So once you finish this video, you can simply go forward with the arrow anyway. You’ll figure all of this out. They auto play. So I’ll stop it there. You can see there’s plenty of content to go through.
03:45 Any questions, let me know on the forum. And of course we’ll meet in our live kickoff meeting. Good. We’ll carry on discussing on the forum and in our live sessions later on.
