Avoiding MarkItDown's Limitations
00:00 As great as MarkItDown is, it does come with its pros and cons. MarkItDown may lose formatting from heavily styled documents, it may struggle with complex images, graphics, and PDFs, and its accuracy heavily depends on image quality and OCR accuracy for text extraction.
00:21 The general rule is to use MarkItDown when your main goal is to extract content and send it to LLMs or AI pipelines, not when you have a complicated PDF or when you have a heavily styled document.
00:36 But if you do end up coming across documents that MarkItDown can’t handle, you can use alternatives like Pandoc, which converts between many document formats and gives you more control over formatting, and then you have Python-Markdown, which converts Markdown to HTML and supports Markdown processing in Python.
00:57 You understand that MarkItDown works best when your primary goal is extracting content and sending it to LLMs or AI pipelines. Now, time for a recap.
