The Course Forum

The forum is the glue that binds everything you’re learning together. I’ll be there every day, checking how you’re doing, answering your questions, starting discussions, and joining in your discussions.

I strongly recommend you come to the forum every day to get the most out of the course. And don’t be shy. The more you participate in the forum, the better the discussions we’ll have!

00:00 Let me say a few words about the forum. I could have included this in the previous welcome video, but I wanted to give the forum its own space because I think it’s so central to how an eight-week course like this works.

00:14 Yes, we’re going to be meeting live up to three times a week if you can join all the sessions, but the forum is there 24/7. Now we’re all based in different time zones.

00:25 You will have other things to do. You’re not spending your whole day on this, of course, but you can go into the forum at any point, ask questions. I will be on the forum throughout my entire daytime.

00:37 Of course, I do have to sleep at night and, and have some dinner at some point, but I will be on the forum as much as I can during my daytime so that whenever you have a question, you will get an answer reasonably promptly, unless it’s my nighttime. Ask questions.

00:54 Don’t wait for the live Q&As. Of course, you can bring them there as well, but ask them on the forum, post your code. You see that whenever there are exercises, I’ll, I’ll be encouraging you to post your answers, post your code on the forum so we can discuss it there.

01:08 And if someone else asks a question, don’t be shy in providing an answer. If you think you can contribute, don’t say, oh, it’s okay. Stephen will answer those questions.

01:16 Yes, I will, and I’ll join into conversations. I’ll add onto anything you’ve answered, but sometimes answering someone else’s question is a part of the learning process.

01:27 You sort of have to try to explain something to someone else, so use the forum. Let’s use it in as much of a flexible way as we can. It’s where the conversation can keep going more or less, 24/7 throughout these whole eight weeks.

01:42 If you haven’t already, do click on the link to go on the forum. Say hello there. The forum is a private channel on the Real Python, in Slack community, but the channel we run on the forum is an entity.

01:55 You can star it, so it’s always at the top so that you’ll, you’ll always see it as the top channel for these eight weeks.

02:02 It’s just for you, the students doing the cohort course at this particular time, me, and there will be some of my other colleagues at Real Python who will sort of come in and join the discussions as well.

02:13 So that means that everyone on the forum is covering exactly the same material. You’re all on the same day of the course. So let’s use the forum. I think it’s the sort of communications we can have there will really make a difference to

02:29 how much you feel you’ve grasped and understood and really mastered all the topics we’re going to be discussing over the next eight weeks. See you on the forum.
