With a reach of over 2,000,000 visitors a month, it feels amazing how far we’ve come—but we think we can do even better!

To help us raise the quality level of our tutorials even further, and expand beyond the topics we’ve covered so far, we are growing our team.

Requirements & How To Apply

As a Tutorial Editor on the RP Team you’ll put the finishing touches on our written tutorials and articles so we publish helpful, beautiful, and watertight pieces of technical writing that our readers will love.

After structural and technical feedback has been resolved, you’ll perform a final editing and proofreading pass to fix any remaining typos, grammatical issues, and formatting problems.

In this final editing phase you’ll focus on tone, clarity, and formatting (as well as adherence to the style guide) so you can deliver on our high quality standards and guarantee consistency for our students.

You’ll also be responsible for setting up the article on the realpython.com website using our custom content management system. This requires an eye for clear layouts and presenting information on the web in a way that is fun and accessible.

In summary, we’re looking for a freelance Tutorial Editor with a passion for editing and an interest in Python who has:

1. A detailed grasp of the nuts-and-bolts mechanics of written English
2. An instinct for how to analyze text in order to rearrange it in a way that is clearer, both conceptually and visually
3. Precision of thought to address potential ambiguities and misunderstandings in our articles
4. An ear for tone
5. An average of about 15 hours a week to edit articles and communicate with the rest of the team
6. Basic technical knowledge of HTML and web publishing. Experience with using Markdown, and online collaboration tools like GitHub, Trello, and Slack is a plus

You’ll work closely with our Executive Editor in this role and we will train you on the technical details and the specifics of our publishing process—so don’t feel like you have to be a rockstar programmer or blogger to apply for this role.
