Skills

You can save skills in two places:

Location Path Description
Project Root .claude/skills/ For project-level skills that are shared with your team. These files get checked into version control, so everyone working on the project can use them.
User Folder ~/.claude/skills/ For personal skills that work across all your projects. These are available in every Claude Code session but aren’t shared with anyone else.

If the skills/ folder doesn’t exist yet, you can create it by hand. After adding new skills, it’s a good idea to restart Claude Code.

If you want to build your own skill step by step, then check out the tutorial How to Use Claude Code Skills for Better Python Docstrings.
