Cursor CLI

Cursor CLI is a command-line interface for the Cursor agent that brings AI coding assistance to the terminal and to headless automation.

It supports interactive chats that can write, review, and modify code. Before running a terminal command, the CLI asks for approval, and a sandbox mode adds further control over command execution.

It has three modes: agent, plan, and ask. In plan mode, the agent asks clarifying questions to design an approach before coding, and in ask mode, it searches the codebase and answers questions without editing files. The CLI can also hand off long-running tasks to Cloud Agents, and it supports Model Context Protocol (MCP) integration to extend its capabilities.
