Notepad++

Notepad++ is a free, open-source text and source code editor for Windows. It supports many programming languages, including Python, with configurable syntax highlighting and code folding.

It includes useful editing and navigation features, such as regex-capable search and replace, multi-caret and multi-edit features, and column editing. It also supports macros for task automation and allows you to run external commands via the built-in Run menu. Since version 8.0, Notepad++ also offers a built-in dark mode that you can set to follow your Windows light/dark setting.

Notepad++ is extensible via plugins. It ships with a built-in Plugins Admin tool to install, update, and remove plugins.

For deeper Python integration, the third-party PythonScript plugin adds a REPL and programmatic access to Notepad++/Scintilla features.
