OverflowAI

OverflowAI was Stack Overflow’s suite of generative AI features, launched in 2023, that brought conversational search and assistants to Stack Overflow and to Stack Internal, formerly Stack Overflow for Teams. The features were grounded in community Q&A and a company’s private knowledge. Stack Overflow retired the OverflowAI brand in its late-2025 rebrand. Its features have since been distributed across Stack Internal, AI Assist, and the Stack Overflow for Visual Studio Code extension.

The Stack Overflow for Visual Studio Code extension, which grew out of OverflowAI, searches public Stack Overflow and private Stack Internal content, explains and refactors selected code, and turns AI chat transcripts into draft articles from the editor. The extension is available only to Stack Internal Enterprise customers.
